Since a kitchen display system (KDS) performs the mission critical job of automating production in a restaurant, a well-designed KDS must be highly reliable. Any interruption of the automated operation, especially during the peak business hours, cannot be tolerated as it will likely cause significant disruption to the business. The challenge for KDS hardware, therefore, is that the equipment must work flawlessly and continuously under harsh kitchen environments.
Preferably, the system should have the high fault tolerance feature known as zero-single-point-of-failure. A single network connection breakage, for example, should not interrupt the operation of any workstation. Furthermore, well-designed self-diagnostic features should generate alarm messages and show the location of the breakage should one occur, enabling immediate repair. Other highly desirable hardware features of a modern KDS include small physical size, easy mounting, rugged construction, low cost, and being simple to install, maintain and upgrade.
Logic Controls offers the hospitality industry the choice of two hardware platforms for kitchen display system deployments - the Logic Serve and Logic Net® solutions. The units in both the Logic Serve and Logic Net® are ultra compact, highly reliable and rugged. The video controllers themselves measure only 1.0"H x 6.3"W x 5.1L" and can easily be mounted almost anywhere - on a wall, ceiling, table top or under a counter. There are no disk drives, fans or mechanical parts in the units that can easily fail, and the units are enclosed in a heavy-duty case for extra ruggedness. Also included in Logic Controls kitchen display system solutions is the market leading KB1700 bump bar.

Superior Reliability
The KB1700, one of the most popular "bump bars" on the market today, is built to withstand the most demanding requirements of kitchen systems and other industrial applications. The keypad is built with high quality stainless steel dome disk switches that last more than 3 million cycles, and the unit is enclosed in special, high durability plastic that is UV-resistant and prevents color fading. All units also receive full functional and quality control testing before leaving Logic Controls facilities.
Easy and Advanced Programming
The KB1700 is one of the easiest and most programmable bump bars on the market. It is fully downward compatible with the IBM bump bar. All 17 tactile keys are programmable and the KB1700 supports a full set of alphanumeric, control, function, and international output codes. Using a powerful Windows-based programming utility that stores key definitions in a data file, an integrator can create a program layout for multiple keypads, rather than programming key by key, keypad by keypad.
Multitude of Interfaces
The KB1700’s I/O ports allow daisy-chaining of other input devices. It provides either a PS/2 or RS232C output and supports a true keyboard wedge function, operating with or without a computer keyboard. The KB1700 also offers an internal beeper and comes with various legend sheet options.

Cost Effective
The LS3000 I/O stations, when used with a Logic Net® LM3000 control module, can replace costly PC workstations, network hubs and network software. To add more stations, simply increase the number of LS3000 modules. No special interface cards or additional hardware is required for the LS3000 module to communicate with peripheral devices.
Reliable and Rugged
The LS3000 I/O station was designed to meet the most demanding requirements of an industrial network. There are no disk drives, fans or mechanical parts that can easily fail. The enclosure is a heavy-duty zinc die cast case for extra ruggedness. Every module uses snap-to-lock connectors for secure connections. The LS3000 communicates with other workstations and the LM3000 control module using network communications protocols and topologies with proven reliability. It features high common-mode noise rejection network wiring. The poll/select protocol functionality avoids data collision, and the cyclic redundant checks virtually eliminate all communication errors. A zero single-point-of-failure configuration is also supported. LS3000 connections provide for a redundant data path to prevent network interruption due to a line breakage. The LS3000 has low power consumption that results in low internal temperature rise for higher mean time between failure. In addition, the units are tamper proof, with no on/off or selection switches and no adjustable devices.
Ultra Compact
The LS3000 has a very compact form factor only 1.0”h x 6.3”w x 5.1”d. Two mounting brackets enable these modules to be mounted almost anywhere on a wall, ceiling, table top or under a counter. This enables it to be used in a wide variety of applications on a production line, in a restaurant’s kitchen system, etc. despite severe space constraints.
